New office!

June 2nd, 2008

I’ve been wanting to post this for long but a lot has been going on and just couldn’t find the time to sit down and write. So here we go -

Turning two recently, this is the gift we had in store for ourselves. We just moved to a dedicated workspace, from an apartment cum office one. The new office is actually Ashish’s basement and it has more space than we’ll ever need in the near future. Its also surprisingly cool in the summers so it might cut down on the power bill :)

For those of you who’re wondering where’s all the printing equipment, here’s a look at the top secret printer that powers everything at itasveer. Its the all in one printer that we’ve developed with insane amounts of r&d.

No I’m kidding :P. This is actually one of the first failed attempts at making our own t-shirt printer. We’ve already ruined 4 printers and yet to see success, so the project is stalled till we have more funds to waste. Donations will be welcome, lifetime supply of t-shirts to anyone who finances further development.. no kidding this time :)

Now news on the development front.

We’re getting ready to start photobooks, they’ll take a couple of months to appear on itasveer, but if you’ve got any requests then drop in with an email and you can be the first beta customers to receive and give us some feedback on the product. We’ll offer some real discounted rates till it goes live online to all preview customers :). For those of you wondering what a photobook is, have a look here for photos tagged as photobooks on flickr.

Also, summers are here so we got a few internship requests, and we’re happy to have working with us Sanyam Goyal who’s a second year CS under-grad at IIT-Mumbai. He has a “in-need-of-a-desperate-update” half finished personal webpage here, but he fares much better in programming stuff, so he’s built our first demo integration with the print API we recently finished. And now he’ll be trying to solve the upload problem that many of you face with a better uploader (more on these projects later).

Thats some of the news for the past one and a half months.. and thanks all of you for the wishes! Lots of good stuff coming your way.. so stay tuned. Cheers.

The photobooks idea looks quite an interesting one. Looking forward to it…

my failed attempt to online pics:

Hey buddies..for the last two days i have tried and spent 10 hours to order prints and i failed. ultimately i need to go to local vendor for that personal service.

I taseeer: i want to print pics from Picassa album which runs into a 100. i have gone through my hard disk and i have the file nos. but when i connect to ur site i cannot get the picassa album with file names. i have to get out of your site with disbelief..IIT guys with no understanding of customer.

snapfish: this bloody service could not even recongnise half of my files in hard disk. all are JPG but god knows what bug.. i got out of this site too,

GKvale, com: i have selected with picassa-beautiful interface.ordered the prints. excellent..there is a bug. it never went to payment gateway..GOD knows waht happened to my order. alas..

sendmyfoto.com: selecting pics from picassa is just hell. there is no select button. it is URL based. can u imagine..

So in the end : all the sites all the brains still no solution..
i consider my self tecksavvy and i am writing this in disgust..
    Jai Local photowala..

    @sbs
Man! you’ve had a hard time! I’ll note this down as a feature request and we’ll have the filenames displayed along. No one ever complained of this before and so this kind of went overlooked. Will update you when we have this online.

    @Siddharth
Hey..how’re you doing. Well as of now we do not own our printing equipment. So we’re in partnership with a couple of existing printers. This also has its own advantages in the sense that we can find the best printers around India and work with them and learn from them as well :)

Hey Amit.. thanks for dropping by. Well we’re lucky to have a reasonably big space at our disposal, but we’re small so we’re just occupying a corner area :)

Congratulations!!! guys, you are doing a great job.
I have yet to see the results but my parents and in-laws love it.
Ever since you integrated your photo upload with Picasa, sharing pictures has become a breeze.
I love the idea of digital photobooks, I have made few for myself but the fact that I can now share these with my parents in India is so cool…
And a proof to your good service is that my cousins in Inidia have stopped taking pictures to the local labs, they send it to you directly, they say its faster and better…
Thanks again guys, keep up the good work.

    Hi guys!

I have a query!. What would it take to print the photographs taken from the mobile phones. Does one have to download it to the computer and then upload on your site, or is there a easier way. Can someone send u an MMS and through that it gets into your system and then u can do the rest..

There may be issues with regard to payment stuff.. but whats ur take.

    Hi Guys:

Congratulations on your new office and it looks quite inspirational to me. I am sure you feel the same way and that makes you determined to go miles….

    all luck from my side..

  • 13. Nishant  |  June 13th, 2008 at 4:04 pm

Hey Anand, Yes we are in fact quite charged up and you can expect more neat stuff coming out soon.

Hey Siddharth, mobile uploads is definitely on the cards. Payment as you said is an issue nevertheless. But we still want to have that feature up for the convenience value.

One question for all mobile enthusiasts, will you be willing to buy prepaid credits beforehand online to be able to pay instantly on the phone later?
